The experience the controller will need to bring will vary depending on the type of organization you operate. One thing that is the same across every organization is that they are not just handing reports and closing books. They will be interpreting the data and assisting leadership in making decisions.

Controllers will need to be seen and act as leaders in the organization. They will often have accounts payable, accounts receivable, cost accountants, and general accounts just to name a few reporting to them. They should be versed in these job roles to help their team be successful.
